Counsellor in Tooting, South West London
I have practised Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for over twenty years. I offer help on a long or short term basis. My practice is
well situated to provide Psychotherapy and Counselling in Tooting, Balham, Earlsfield, Wandsworth and Wimbledon in South West London.
I work with individuals on an open-ended basis or for an agreed period of time. I offer a space in which you can think about your feelings,
allowing for reflection and change, growth and development. I have worked with a wide variety of clients in terms of age, ethnicity, sexual orientation and background. During the first meeting we will have the opportunity to discuss what has prompted you to seek help. We would work together to try and understand your difficulties.
Counselling and Psychotherapy does not entail advice giving but a gradual getting to know yourself by exploring your feelings, habitual experiences and patterns of relating to yourself and others. You may be very self-critical resulting in an inability to sufficiently support yourself through hard times. This is commonly called having low self-esteem that would make you vulnerable to other difficulties which can become harder and harder to combat. It can become a vicious circle with a lack of internal resources to support you.
Sometimes people come to counselling or psychotherapy due to particular problems such as depression, stress, social anxiety, sadness, addiction, eating disorders, panic attacks or self-harm. People also seek psychotherapy if there are repeating patterns in their experiences including their relationships. You may be stuck in unhelpful patterns of thought or behaviour. Your life may be a struggle in a way you do not understand. Do you feel overwhelmed? Are you suffering difficulties following some adversity such as the loss of a relationship, death of a loved one or redundancy? Do your commitments and emotional experiences lack depth or meaning?
Your relationship with me would be an essential part of the process. You might have feelings about our relationship and how we interact that if thought about could illuminate your experience of other important relationships in your life.
I will work with you to try and understand how past experiences may have affected your way of dealing with life events and the way in which you relate to yourself and others. Discovering and getting to know the sources of your problems and knowing that someone is reliably there to help you work through them can give you the strength to resolve them.
The coronavirus is evoking anxiety in everyone but it takes a form unique in each of us. Psychodynamic Therapy will enable you to
explore your particular response to the crisis.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) recommends psychodynamic psychotherapy for Depression and Social Anxiety Disorder.
